Eileen Napaltjarri

b. 1956, Haasts Bluff, Northern Territory

Eileen was born in the Haasts Bluff community in December 1956 to Charlie Tararu Tjungurrayi, one of the founding members of Papunya Tula Artists, and Tatali Nangala, another very successful Papunya artist.  Eileen grew up at Haasts Bluff, but moved to Kintore with her family, once the outstation there had been established.  The main site that Eileen refers to in her painting is Tjitjurrulnga, which is slightly west of Kintore and the birthplace of her father.  She often sat beside both of her parents as they painted, and in 1999 began to paint regularly for Papunya Tula Artists. Eileen’s mother is the accomplished artist Tatali Nangala and her father the late Charlie Tararu.
