Narrabri Nakamarra c. 1950-2012 Narrabri Nakamarra was the daughter of the well-known Papunya Tula painter Makinti Napanangka and Nyukuti (Paddy) Tjupurrula who was the older brother of Nosepeg Tjupurrula. She was born in Haasts Bluff in approximately 1950, and lived there for some time before moving with her family to the Papunya community. Narrabri later moved to Kintore where she lived with her husband Hilary Tjapaltjarri, their two daughters and five grandchildren. Narrabri assisted her mother to paint in the 1990’s and then began her first paintings for Papunya Tula Artists at Kintore in 1999. She painted the rockhole site of Payarrnganyan which is associated with a Lungkata (Blue Tongued Lizard) Dreaming. |
